Friday

Make me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, you have entrusted to your Church a share in the ministry of your Son our great high priest: inspire by your Holy Spirit the hearts of many to offer themselves to the ministry of your Church, that strengthened by his power, they may work for the increase of your kingdom and set forward the eternal praise of your name; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Reading from scripture - choose one of the following:

Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. (Amos 5.14, 15)

When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7.13, 14)

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. (2 Corinthians 4.8 – 10)

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3.16, 17)

A Time of Silence is kept

Psalm - Read one of the following Psalms

26, 32, 56, 3, 6, 25, 39, 13, 124, 147

The local church,  for courage to take up the cross of Christ

Those in authority, for the right use of power

Victims and perpetrators of violence, for healing and repentance

Collect

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for all the benefits you have won for us, for all the pains and insults you have borne for us.

Most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day.       (After Richard of Chichester - 1253)

    The Lord's Prayer is said.

Almighty God, we thank you for the gift of your holy word. May it be a lantern to our feet, a light upon our paths, and      strength to our lives. Take us and use us to love and serve all people in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of your Son,

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
